Automated External Defibrillator ( AED )
 
State-of-the-art life saving technology is now affordable and easy to use. With the use of an AED, people in cardiac arrest now have a much better chance of survival. This course provides students with the knowledge and hand-on skills necessary in providing Automated External Defibrillation to a patient who is unresponsive, with no breathing and no circullation until more advanced medical aid arrives.
 
 
Prerequisistes: Level 1 First Aid or equivilant (for workplace)
Course Length: 8 Hours
Course Format: One day

Examination: Written multiple choice
Certificate: Good for 1 year
 
In this course students will learn or review:
 
- First Aid Review on Scene Management, Adult CPR, and Adult Choking
- AED theory explaining how AED's work
- What are shockable, non-shockable rythms
- What happens when a shock is delivered
- How important time is to the chance of patients' survival
- When and when not to use an AED
- Considerations for children, pregnancies, pacemakers, and other scenarios
- The use of different types of AED's and hands-on practical scenarios
